2022 Garden Trends
Over the last few years we have seen gardening trends shift as people were forced to stay home. This led many people to discover the joy of gardening. Last year we saw folks focus more on their outdoor living spaces. This year that trend is set to continue, but with the added caveat of returning to the office and working to balance gardening with their day job.
Color Trends
Last year the color trends for flowers were white gardens. This year we're bringing back pops of color, but also keeping the white for a bit of contrast. Check out bi-color flowers like purple and white bi-color petunias. Speaking of shades of purple, each year Pantone announces a color of the year. This year's color is Pantone 17-3938 Veri Peri, a periwinkle-inspired purple tone.
Going Wild
Last year there was a push for "wild gardens" and that trend is set to continue. At home I have been working on a long-term project to build a meadow garden. Until now I have focused on plants, but now I also plan on working to create a habitat for wildlife too. Plants that will provide seeds for birds, shelter for animals, and also a water source.
All Weather Gardening
From the landscape to the vegetable garden, as new gardeners (and many experienced gardeners) have rediscovered the joy of being outside, one problem has persisted. Old man winter. During colder weather gardening doesn't stop, it just changes. Look for plants that you can enjoy in the fall, early spring, and even the winter. Below is a video from our friend Brie Arthur taking a look at her winter garden.
