This month I thought I would try a new, simplified layout for the almanac.  Hopefully, this will be a bit easier to utilize when planning your gardening tasks.

Last Quarter Moon🌗 Tuesday, September 24th Barren Time, Turn Compost & Work Soil

Garden Tasks By Week

Week 36 – September 1st to September 7th

Monday, September 2nd – Labor Day

  • Seed Lettuce, Spinach, Turnips, and Radishes

  • Plant Crocus

  • Dig Late Potatoes and Prepare Root Cellar

  • Turn Compost

  • Order Spring Flowering Bulbs

 

Week 37 – September 8th to September 14th

Wednesday, September 11th – Patriot Day

  • Seed Carrots and Bunching Onions in a Cold Frame or High Tunnel

  • Plant Garden Mums and Hardy Evergreens

  • Harvest Early Pumpkins

  • September 14th, begin exposing overwintered poinsettias to 14 hours of darkness each day to force them to turn by Christmas.

 

Week 38 – September 15th to September 21st

  • Seed Fall Spinach and Seed Lettuce in a High Tunnel

  • Plant Shallots and Potato Onions

  • Transplant Winter Sprouting Broccoli

  • Repot Houseplants

  • Harvest Pumpkins and Early-Planted Sweet Potatoes

 

Week 39 – September 22nd to September 28th

Sunday, September 22nd – Autumnal Equinox (Fall Begins)

  • Seed Salad Greens, Carrots, and Leeks in a cold Frame or High Tunnel

  • Plant Elephant Garlic and Hyacinths

  • Harvest Storage Onions

  • Save Heirloom Tomato Seeds

  • Bring Rosemary Plants Indoors Before Frost
